Based on 3D Educational Services (3DES) demos at our NEMSTEM Conference last Spring, we decided to offer a summer introductory course in 3D printing, Robotics and its Applications to our Early College and current Associate degree students at North Shore Community College (STEM Starter Academy Summer Bridge program sponsored by Massachusetts Department of Higher Education). The 3DES team's mandate was to develop & teach a 6-week summer schedule class which included providing teaching materials, kits, in-class supervision with tests and grading. 3DES exceeded our expectations and brought so much more to the classroom to encourage our students. The students feedback was very positive and would lead to develop some other programs with them.
3DES allowed students to explore the subject material in a personal way with a high level of student-instructor interaction. The do-it-yourself robot kits, design of 3D robot parts, design of 3D robot parts by students, cheat-sheets (Robotics Vocabulary), quizzes and in-class assignments brought project-based learning full-circle!
